Project Overview

Carrboro is updating its Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Strategic Plan to make it safer and easier for students to walk, bike, or roll to school at Carrboro Elementary, McDougle Elementary, Morris Grove Elementary, McDougle Middle, and Carrboro High. The Town is contracting with Three Oaks Engineering to assess how students travel, gather input from families and community members, and develop strategies to support active transportation.

Update & Draft Recommendations

Three Oaks Engineering shared an update with the Carrboro Town Council on April 21, 2026. They walked through what we see today, what we’ve heard from the community, and our early ideas for program and infrastructure improvements. Council members shared feedback and guidance that will help shape the draft plan. We expect to share that draft with the community for review in early summer.

Public Engagement Results

The project team completed the initial public engagement phase in December 2025. Below you’ll find summaries of what we heard during this phase, including feedback from pop‑up and community events, walk audits, and the survey. For quick reference, two‑page engagement snapshots are also available for each school, highlighting key themes and priorities.
