project overview

Over the years, the Town of Carrboro has taken many progressive steps to create a welcoming, sustainable, and innovative community. The Downtown Area Plan project is the next step along this path, with a concentrated focus on downtown and the Jones Ferry Road area. The Town’s 2022 Carrboro Connects Comprehensive Plan outlined a 10- to 20-year strategy for the future of Carrboro. This Downtown Area Plan is a specific implementation step identified in the Carrboro Connects Comprehensive Plan to help guide decisions related to:

  • Public spaces
  • Land use
  • Downtown Infrastructure and Streetscapes
  • Branding and Urban Design
  • Building Appearance
  • Redevelopment and Infill Opportunities

Throughout the planning process, the Town will host a variety of community meetings, surveys, and engagement opportunities to allow the Carrboro community to help shape the vision for Downtown Carrboro. Visit this site regularly for updates and new engagement opportunities!
